Driver Doug Snyder, injured Saturday in a three-horse pile-up at The Meadows, has been diagnosed with three broken ribs. Snyder's wife, Jan, said physicians did not indicate how long he would be sidelined, but she added, “Knowing Doug, he won't be out that long.” She said he felt well enough on Monday to travel to Harrisburg for the yearling sale. The accident occurred when Snyder's horse, Andiamo Subito, collided with a fallen horse and himself went down, dumping Snyder, who then was clipped by the wheel of a trailing horse. Drivers Mike Wilder and Brian Zendt, also involved in the mishap, did not suffer serious injury and drove on The Meadows' Monday card. Snyder, 56, captured his 6,000th career victory at The Meadows last April. A native of Fremont, Ohio who was raised in Painesville, he began his harness racing career by accompanying his father, trainer Richard Snyder, on a circuit that included Illinois, western New York and Pocono Downs. He won with his first drive, behind Manor Grace at Balmoral Park in 1971. (The Meadows)
