Snyder is owner of year

Jeffrey Snyder, whose 2005 stable was topped by powerhouse pacer Rocknroll Hanover and complemented by several other hard hitters, has been named Owner of the Year in voting by the directors of the U.S. Harness Writers Association. Snyder won the initial USHWA Owner of the Year award in 1994, when he campaigned another standout 3 year old in Cam's Card Shark, who went on to Horse of the Year honors.



Rocknroll Hanover, who is co-owned by Snyder along with Lothlorien Equestrian Center and Perretti Racing Stable, was the number one-rated horse in the year-end poll of knowledgeable scribes, deserving of that honor by winning the North America Cup, the Meadowlands Pace, and the Breeders Crown, and "dancing all the major dances," as the saying goes. Rocknroll became only the sixth harness horse to earn $2 million in a single season.



Other top horses for Snyder in 2005 included Village Jolt, last year's 2-year-old champion who bankrolled $700,000 this year for Snyder and partners Arlene and Jules Siegel, as well as the 3 year old Cam's Fool.



Will Rocknroll join the Card Shark as Horse of the Year winners for Snyder? We'll find out Wednesday, Feb. 8 at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, when divisional winners will be honored at the Night of Stars banquet during the Harness Racing Congress, and where Snyder will receive his Owner of the Year award.
