Soggy Britches didn't give any of her nine rivals a chance in winning Monday night's $60,000(C) Town Pro Pacing Series final for 3-year-old fillies at Mohawk in 1:51.2. Sent off as the second-choice in the wagering, driver Mike Saftic had the strapping daughter of Allamerican Ingot-Soggy Dragon firing off the wings from post nine and clearing to command well before the first quarter of :26.2. Race favorite Arts A Flutter was sluggish at the start and could get away no better than seventh in the early stages. Once in control, Saftic let his filly roll through a half in :54.2 and three-quarters in 1:22.1. The filly had built up a sizeable advantage at the top of the stretch and easily held on for the richest win of her brief career. Sweet Day, who had a chance at the series sweep, finished in second with longshot Summer Artist rounding out the top three. "I thought there would be a war to the first turn," said Saftic. "I had a hard time getting her to relax tonight, we put a new bike on her and she was touching it. I opened her up around the final turn, but she was emptying out a bit in deep stretch. That's why I kept after her. She's big and strong, and I wouldn't be surprised to see her go with top fillies." Monday's victory was the seventh in nine starts for Soggy Britches who is in her first season at the races. The Tony O'Sullivan trainee increased her career bankroll to just under $90,000(C) for the Emerald Highlands Farm of Mount Vernon, Ohio. (WEG)
