Some accord at Vernon

A federal judge on Thursday received a document that spelled out Vernon Downs Acquisition's agreement to pay off creditors and bring the track out of bankruptcy, a step that could lead to the re-opening of the track.



Vernon Downs still must apply to the New York State Racing and Wagering Board for race dates, but reports state that if the agreement is fulfilled by the end of the month officials could ask that racing begin as soon as Memorial Day and the video gaming parlor open in early July.



Also reached on Thursday was an agreement by the Harness Horse Association of New York and the track over the distribution of more than $384,000 in purse money that has been held in escrow. The Harness Horse Association does not have a signed contract with the track and instead a new group, the Vernon Downs Harness Horse Association, has signed an agreement.



Also in New York, a new Standardbred sale, which will offer both yearlings and a mixed sale, will be held Oct. 21-22 at Tioga Downs. The Summer's End Equine Sale has announced it will limit its offering to 125 yearlings and 200 mixed hips, and that entries will close when those numbers have been reached.
