Trotters competed under sadde in the Prix de Cornulier at Hippodrome de Vincennes in Paris Sunday, and the winner, Magnificent Rodney, a son of Coktail Jet trained by Ulf Nordin, took the winner's share of the $1 million-plus purse.
The Swedish-bred Hot Tub, a son of Sugarcane Hanover out of the Nevele Pride mare Bathing Beauty, took the early lead in the race, but wasn't tough enough for the 2,700 meter distance. With 600 meters left Frank Nivard sent Magnificent Rodney to the outside and he trotted to a victory in a new stakes record time, a mile rate of 1:57.
Magnificent Rodney earned an invitation to this coming Sunday's Prix d'Amerique with his triumph in the Cornulier.
