Driver Jim Morrill Jr. won three of four New York Sire Stakes divisions for 3-year-old colt and gelding pacers Saturday night at Saratoga Harness--all of which went to sons of Art Major--while Arts Ragin Heart came up a winner in the $124,000 Joe Gerrity Jr. final and Armbro Scorpion scored in the $66,000 August Fun final.
Morrill directed Major Work Of Art to a three-quarter length win over Art Two D Two in 1:53.4 in the first $61,847 NYSS division. The gelded winner is owned by trainer Phil Fluet in partnership with Keith Franklin.
Morrill's second NYSS win came in the second $61,847 split with He's Gorgeous, who won by 3 1/4 lengths over Art For Arts Sake in 1:53. Linda Toscano trains the winning colt for owner Ken Jacobs.
In a $62,947 NYSS division, Morrill drove Joey The Czar to a six-length win in 1:51. The gelding is trained by Bruce Saunders for owner Kevin Gee. A second $62,947 split went to Jimmie Hanover and driver Brett Miller in 1:52. Larry Remmen trains the winner for owner John Lichtenberger
In the Gerrity final, Brett Miller directed the 6-5 favorite Arts Ragin Heart to a 1:52.2 victory, defeating Kelly's Noah and Rare Jewel. Trained by Lou Pena, the 7-year-old gelded son of Jet Laag is owned by JL Benson Stables. The victory increased Arts Ragin Heart's career earnings to more than a half-million dollars.
Tracy Brainard trains and shares ownership of August Fun winner Scorpion Moon with Andrew Herzog. Dan Cappello Jr. was in the sulky behind the 9-year-old gelded son of Armbro Scorpion for the 1:54 .4 victory, which increased his career earnings to more than $750,000.
