Western Terror, driven by Brian Sears, rallied from far back in the first $87,500 division of the Bluegrass Stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings to win in 1:51.2.
Santastic's Pan captured the lead from Little Brown Jug elim winner Blissed Out at the three-quarter mark and remained on top as they headed for home, but North American Cup winner Mantacular charged up on the lead. Lurking far behind was Western Terror and Brian Sears and they bolted to the front for the win.
This was the first start for the Western Terror, a son of Western Hanover, since winning his Jug elim and finishing second to stablemate Timesareachanging in the final. Western Terror is trained by Brett Pelling and owned by David and Terry Brooks' Perfect World Enterprises.
In the second $86,700 division, Meadowlands Pace winner Holborn Hanover and George Brennan came from far back to edge the battling Armbro Baylor (Sears) and Marchand (Dave Palone) late in the stretch for the 1:51.4 win.
The 3-year-old gelding by Cams Card Shark has won five out of 17 starts this year for trainer Mark Harder. Holborn Hanover has bankrolled $690,223 in 2004, for owners John Fielding and Canamerica Capital Corp.
In the final $86,700 Bluegrass division, Driven To Win and David Miller came from off the pace and drew away from the field mid-stretch to win in 1:51, the fastest of all three splits.
The win was the first of the year in 19 starts for the son of Jenna's Beach Boy and the time of 1:51 was a new lifetime best. Driven To Win is owned by Ted Gewertz, Martha and Milton Frank and trainer Joe Holloway
