Rocknroll Hanover edged past American Ideal in the final strides to win the second of two Breeders Crown eliminations at the Meadowlands Saturday night. The two divisional heavyweights slugged it out down the stretch before the Meadowlands Pace and North America Cup winner put his neck in front to win in 1:49.2.



Speed Demon, driven by Ron Pierce, forced Gryffindor and driver David Miller into the two hole out of the gate. Mark MacDonald sent American Ideal to the lead past the quarter but was only able to clear just at the :54.3 half. Shortly after Brian Sears tipped Rocknroll Hanover to the outside from fifth, working his way to the front steadily.



Down the stretch Sears ducked his charge behind American Ideal but he came back out nearing the wire and was able to surge past late. Leading X Ample took third over I Zee and



Brett Pelling trains the winning son of Western Ideal who won for the 11th time in 17 starts this year.



The first elim went to outsider Up Front Charlie, who scored in a career-best 1:50.1 for driver Dave Palone. Gold Dust Beach (John Campbell) was second with Roddy's Bags Again (Cat Manzi) third over Village Jolt.



A son of Dragon Again, Up Front Charlie is trained by Kelly O'Donnell.
