Three divisions of 3-year-old filly trotters were contested Monday night at Batavia Downs, with each carrying a purse of more than $12,000. Reaching the winner’s circle in the trio of events were Someway, Princess Robyn and Anikawiesahalee. Someway and driver-trainer Brian Cross took the first $12,600 late-closer contest—a non-wagering race held prior to the start of the pari-mutuel card—in 2:03.2. A daughter of Conway Hall-Heaven Tonight, Someway led wire to wire with little competition from the rest of the six-horse field. “She raced well,” said the driver, trainer, and part owner Cross after he posed in the win photo with Someway. Racing to victory in the second $12,600 late-closer event that was carded as the fourth race on the betting program was Princess Robyn, again with Cross at the lines. The daughter of Conway Hall-Peace N Harmony won in 2:00.1 after edging the pacesetting Waltzing Bertie and driver Jack Flanigen by a neck. Princess Robyn is trained by co-owner David Dziengiel. Hitting the wire first in the last late-closer race of the night, the 10th race on the card with a purse of $12,700, was the favorite Anikawiesahalee and Jay Randall in 2:02.2. Nowerland Collins and Cross led the way until the final turn for home when Anikawiesahalee took command and powered away to a three-length score. Anikawiesahalee is a filly by Credit Winner-Sahalee owned by Michael Pozefsky and trained by Maureen Salino. (edited from Batavia Downs)
