Souloy, Bazire seek another big win in Oslo Grand Prix

The team of trainer Fabrice Souloy and driver Jean Michel Bazire will try to continue its international success tour in Norway Sunday when a field of 10 goes to the post in the Oslo Grand Prix. The 2,100 meter race over the five-eighths mile Bjerke track will offer more than $300,000 to the winner.

Already the winners of the Premio d’Europa and the Gran Premio Nazionale delle Lotteria in Italy, the Finalandia Ajo in Finland and the Criterium de4s 4 Ans in France, all in a 10-day period, Souloy and Bazaire will be seeking to capture the Oslo Grand Prix with Exploit Caf, this year’s Prix de France winner.

The field, with driver and country of ownership, includes:

1     Colombian Necktie     Thomas Uhrberg         Sweden

2     Jaded                 Ørjan Kihlstrøm        Sweden

3     Exploit Caf           Jean Michel Bazire     Italy/France

4     L'Amiral Mauzun       Tony Le Beller         France

5     Steinlager            Bjørn Goop             Norway

6     Going Kronos          Lutfi Kolgjini         Sweden

7     Torvald Palema        Åke Svanstedt          Sweden

8     Maid For Tag          Olav Mikkelborg        Norway/US-bred

9     Adams Hall            Johnny Takter          Sweden/US-bred

10    Opal Viking           Jorma Kontio           Sweden

Unfortunately there are no North American-owned horses in the field, and it looks as if that will be the same for Solvalla’s Elitlopp. Enough Talk and San Remo Kosmos did not win at Meadowlands in the Su Mac Lad final and the winner, Before He Cheats, is supposed to need another season to be ready for international competition.

Among the U.S-breds who will race at Bjerke over the weekend include Surtees Hanover (Andover Hall) in a rematch with Lord Capar, Pure Ivory (Striking Sahbra) against the top mares and Rune U.S. (Yankee Glide) in the 4-year-old elite.
