Allan Davis had his biggest year in 2012 and he is continuing in January as he drove four winners on Saturday afternoon at Dover Downs, headed by 18-1 Southern Viking in the $12,500 mares featured pace.
Southern Viking challenged front-pacing Auf Wiedersehen (Jack Parker) after the three-quarters and then took over entering the homestretch. The 5-year-old Matt's Scooter-Perfect Viking daughter trained by Anastas Papadopoulos for Brandon, Wanda and Cliff Murray took a lifetime mark of 1:55.4. Powerful Honey (Roger Plante) closed strongly to finish second in front of Squeezeme Pleaseme (Eddie Davis Jr.).
Earlier, Davis and trainer Wayne Givens collaborated on a trio of other winners; Niel Gargiulo and Reg Hazzard's Peach Pistol a 1:51.4 win in a $9,000 pace; All Pro Hall in 1:53 taking a $10,000 claiming pace for Mark Givens and Legacy Racing Of DE and fast finishing Totally De Vie, winner of a $7,500 claiming pace in 1:54.3 for Billie Givens and the first of two wins for Legacy Racing Of DE.
Daryl Bier led off the first of three wins guiding George and Janette Hobbs' Road Rash home in 1:57.2 to win a $6,500 conditioned trot. Shopping With Art, a recent addition to the Bier barn, won for the fourth consecutive start, notching a 1:52 triumph in a $10,500 pace. Bier's third win came piloting It Hurts Me to a 1:55 success for Annette Leech and trainer Tony Domino in a $10,000 mares claimer.
Also visiting the winner's circle three times was Tony Morgan. His winners were Todd Wise's JJscollegefund, winning her maiden in 1:58.3 in a $5,000 pace; Crissman Stable's Ivegivenwhatigot made it two straight winning a $7,500 claimer in 1:54.3 and then Foulk Stables' This Is It, winner of a trot in a new mark of 1:58.4.
