Southwind Tempo proved Sunday at Harrah's Chester that when she has the advantage, she won't be denied as she captured the $250,000 Betsy Ross Final for pacing mares with a 2 1/4-length score over My Little Dragon in 1:50.2.
With John Campbell driving, as usual, Southwind Tempo started from post one and controlled the race with fractions of :26.2, :55.4 and 1:23.2 before throwing a closing clip of :27 at the pocket-sitting My Little Dragon. Darlin's Delight, who started from post three, finished third.
Southwind Tempo, a 4-year-old daughter of Bettor's Delight, has now won five of six starts this season. Her only defeat came in a leg of the Classic Series at Dover Downs, when she started outside of rival My Little Dragon and was stung in the first quarter mile.
Trained by Kevin Lare and owned by Jerry Silva, Southwind Tempo has now earned $284,450 this season. Her career bankroll now stands at $1,159,004.
