Southwind Tempo stamped herself the one to beat in the $136,400 Overbid Final as she scored a 1:51.1 victory in the second round of the series on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
Southwind Tempo sprinted to the lead down the backstretch and disposed of challenger Lislea Phia at the head of the stretch. As the field began to close in, driver John Campbell asked Southwind Tempo for more and she responded, pulling away to a 1 1/4-length win. My Little Dragon closed from seventh at the top of the stretch to finish second, while Street Dancer rallied along the pylons for third. Southwind Tempo paid $2.60 to win the $50,000 fifth race.
Kevin Lare added Southwind Tempo to his roster of trainees two weeks ago after Jerry Silva of Long Beach, N.Y., purchased the 2007 Three-Year-Old Filly Pacer of the Year in a million-dollar deal. She has won 21of 26 career starts and $922,554.
The $136,400 Overbid Final will be contested Friday, March 21. (Meadowlands)
