In a wire-to-wire performance, Spice Queen extended her winning streak to six, capturing the $85,000 Helen Smith Memorial Trot on Friday afternoon at Freehold Raceway.

Brian Sears rated the trotting filly through modest fractions of 29, 1:00 and 1:29.1, pulling away in the stretch with a :28.3 final panel for a 2 1/4-length victory in 1:57.4.  It was well off the stakes record of 1:56.2 set by Marla Bar in 2002.

A 3-year-old bay daughter of Yankee Glide out of The Big Enchilada, Spice Queen is a perfect six-for-six in 2007 and the winner of six of eight lifetime outings. She now has banked $54,370.

The $60,000 Lexington Selected Sale yearling purchase races for brothers Norman Smiley of Boca Raton, Fla. and Gerald Smiley of Cote Saint-Luc, Quebec and is trained by Erv Miller.

Spice Queen ($6.20, $3.60, $2.10) was tested on the turn for home by Victoria Volo ($4.80, $2.10), who finished second, but 4-5 favorite Resortful ($2.10) failed to gain ground in the stretch and settled for third. Both Victoria Volo and Resortful are daughters of Dream Vacation.

It was the first Helen Smith victory for Miller and Sears and the second credit for the stallion Yankee Glide, who also sired the 2005 winner, Ticket To Glide.

The Helen Smith for 3-year-old trotting fillies, carded as the sixth race, was developed and sponsored by the Standardbred Breeders & Owners Association of New Jersey. (SBOANJ)
