KG Delight rocketed off the live cover of Street Dancer in the stretch and exploded home to capture the $50,000 opening leg of the Overbid, for free-for-all pacing mares, in 1:51.4 on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
Street Dancer finished second after a tough first-over trip and it was a length and a quarter back to the pocketsitter Miss Galvinator A in third. The 2006 Older Pacing Mare of the Year, Burning Point, cut the mile but faded in the stretch to finish sixth but was placed fifth after a disqualification.
Driven by David Miller and trained by Nikolas Drennan, the 16-1 longshot KG Delight notched her first win in her sixth start of the year and increased her lifetime earning to $299,873 for Paul Giammichele and Basil Michele of Ont.
The Overbid series continues next Friday, March 16 and concludes with an estimated $100,000 final on March 23.
In the first of three $16,000 divisions of the Matt’s Scooter, Art’s Image took the fifth race in 1:53 for driver Yannick Gingras and trainer Noel Daley. The 3-year-old son of Artsplace scored his fourth straight victory.
In the second division, driver David Miller guided Pesto Hanover to victory. Trained by Chris Ryder, the son of Bettor’s Delight scored his third win of the year in 1:53.1.
Rounding out the Matt’s Scooter action, Spin Rate took the eighth-race division in 1:52 for the Ray Remmen stable and driver Ron Pierce.
