The Nevada Gaming Commission has lifted the decade-old ban on the use of cell phones and other electronic devices inside sports books in the state for a one-year test period. Commission chairman Pete Bernhard was quoted as saying that regulators realize there is a lot of “purely innocent use of cell phones in casinos” leading to confusion as to the reasons. The commission will monitor cell-phone usage in the sports books to ensure they aren’t being used for any illegal activity such as messenger betting (a person paid to place wagers for other persons).
