Sportsfancy became a sub-1:50 performer on Friday night when she won the $50,000 first leg of the Overbid Series with a 1:49.4 score over Cape & Cutter champion Martha Maxine. Sportsfancy had finished a fading fifth in the Cape & Cutter final two weeks earlier, hence she slipped by most of the bettors and paid $29.60 for her Overbid win.
Brian Sears drove Sportsfancy to the victory for trainer Josh Green. Sears spotted her in the second-over tier and the 5-year-old mare by Sportsmaster kicked off cover and won with a :27.1 final panel. Chancey Lady, the pacesetter for most of the race, faded to seventh in the stretch drive.
Larry Baron owns Sportsfancy, who picked up her third victory in six starts this season.
The $2.5 million winner Darlin's Delight made her first start of the season in the Overbid, but started from post eight and rallied from seventh at the top of the homestretch and finished fourth.
