Sprig Hanover forces Jugette race-off

After posting her first win of the year in the first heat of Wednesday's Jugette at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds, Good News Lady made a break at the start of the second heat which took her far out of contention. After the dust settled, it was Sprig Hanover, under a savvy drive from John Campbell, who emerged victorious in a blanket finish in 1:54, forcing a two-horse race-off with Good News Lady to determine the winner of the Jugette for 3-year-old filly pacers.

Dreamlands Latte--who finished second in the first heat--left from post two and took the lead for David Miller, a task made easier by Good News Lady's miscue which also caused the trailing Im A Native too to go offstride as well. Campbell tucked Sprig Hanover into second around the first turn.

After an opening quarter of :26.4, Brian Sears sent Miss Scarlett up first-over, and the half was reached in :55.1 and three quarters in 1:24.4. Campbell was able to maneuver out behind Miss Scarlet in the final turn as he relinquished the pocket trip, and the three-wide move paid off as the daughter of Allamerican Native rushed home the winner.

Dreamlands Latte finished a neck behind in second, with Cartniverous (Eric Goodell) third and Thong (Tim Tetrick) fourth between horses. The race was reduced to eight starters when Pavla Hanover, who finished eighth in the first heat, was scratched

Owned by Joseph Critelli, William Switala and James Martin, Sprig Hanover won for the fourth time this year. She had been trained by Ontario-based Gregg McNair until just over a week ago, moving into Linda Toscano's barn.

Prior to her Jugette heat victory, Sprig Hanover's biggest win of the year came in the $176,750(C) Northlands Filly Pace final at Northlands Park in Edmonto, Alberta, in late May.
