Heavy favorites Tigerama and Secrets Nephew were both victorious in their respective $50,000 divisions of the opening leg of the Spring Pacing Championship Saturday night at Woodbine Racetrack. Secrets Nephew made his move to the front in the second quarter of the opening division and then cruised to an easy 1-1/4 length tally for trainer-driver Lyle Macarthur in 1:52. Camifications challenged in the final half and finished second with Booze Cruzin rounding out the top three. Secrets Nephew returned $3.40 for the victory. It was the third win in 10 tries this season for Secrets Nephew who increased his career bankroll to more than $810,000 for Macarthur who co-owns along with Frank Grandinetti of Amherst, New York. In the second division, Tigerama extended his win streak to three with another dominant gate-to-wire effort for Mark MacDonald in 1:50.4. The eight-year-old son of Village Jiffy turned back Ramegade Bruiser and Zooka. He returned a popular $2.60 for the win. It was the third straight and 55th lifetime win for Tigerama. The Bill Elliott trainee now sits with more than $1.4 million in career earnings for owner Bob Hamather of Exeter, Ontario. The Spring Pacing Championship will continue with round two next Saturday night at Woodbine. (WEG)
