Next Wave (1:55.3) and Marcarius (1:59.3) captured their respective Spring Training late-closer finals at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs Tuesday afternoon.

Catch-driver Mike Simons and Next Wave parlayed a second-over trip into the victory of the $21,800 Spring Training Pace final for fillies and mares.

Carmine Fusco, who trains Next Wave, also had the second-place finisher in the finals with Joilet Jean (Sean Bier). Annabelle Lou, reined by George Napolitano Jr., was third.

El Lobo LLC of Merrick, N.Y., owns Next Wave, a winner of six of 13 starts this season with two seconds and two thirds.

Meanwhile, Marcarius won the $21,200 Spring Training Trot with Napolitano aboard.

Marcarius took the lead from Goodly Chip (Tom Jackson) after the first quarter time was registered in :30.

Marcarius led the nine-horse field to the half in :59.1 and three-quarters in 1:29.4 before winning by 1 ¼ lengths over Goodly Chip. Third in the race was Dan (Mark Gingrich). The latter had to come from way back after leaving from the nine post.

Herb Lux III of Hanover Township, Pa., owns Marcarius, a 10-year-old gelding with two wins in 10 starts this season. Bill Mullin trains the German-born trotter.

Solveig wired a field of seven in Tuesday’s $9,500 Open Handicap Trot in 1:55 with trainer Jimmy Takter aboard.

A 4-year-old mare by Yankee Glide, Solveig has won four of eight and $53,660 this year for owners Christina Takter, John Fielding, Anderberg Stable, and Frederick Hertrich III.
