Stage Show grabbed “center stage” in Tuesday night’s Open II Trot at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. With Tom Jackson in the bike, Stage Show won the $22,000 trot in a track record time of 1:53.1.
The 4-year-old mare came into the race 0-for-17 but put in a solid effort from the one hole. Stage Show broke the previous mark of 1:54 set by 4-year-old mare Tom’s OK Lady in August 2007 with Greg Grismore in the bike. Ironically, Grismore was driving Image Bill in the Tuesday night Open II Trot.
Jackson and Stage Show, the 6-5 favorites, left quickly from the one post and sat third for the first half of the mile with Our Last Photo (Ray Schnittker) cutting out the mile with the timer reading :27 and :55. It was down the backside that Jackson came first over with Stage Show and blew by Our Last Photo to take the nine-horse field of trotters to the three-quarters in 1:24.1.
Stage Show, trained by Jim Campbell and owned by Arlene and Jules Siegel, didn’t let up after drawing away. She won by eight lengths over Broadwaylonghaul (Joe Pavia Jr.) with third place going to Dink Adoo (Eric Goodell).
Last season, Stage Show won nine of 16 races and earned more than $394,000.
Green Day, driven by Andrew McCarthy and trained by Mary Raymer, captured the $30,000 Open I Trot. Green Day won by a neck over Super Chuck (Pavia) with third going to Big Boy Lloyd (Grismore).
In this race, Green Day came from the back of the pack to win. This was the sixth win in 24 starts for Green Day, owned by Trillium Racing Stable. (Pocono Downs)
