Scioto Downs played host to Ohio State Fair Stakes competition Saturday night, offering three $27,800 divisions for freshman colt pacers and two $30,900 splits for sophomore pacing colts.

Osborne’s Rabbit and Greg Grismore assumed the lead near the :58.2 opening half and hit the wire first in 1:57 to take the first two-year-old division. The On The Attack gelding won his second consecutive start for owner Jerome Osborne of Mentor, Ohio. The time established the new lifetime best for the Eric Hamlet trainee. Make A Stand finished second after an early break leaving the gate and Rapsappeal was third.

Randy Tharps and Travis Lou wired the field in the second split on their way to a 1:55 victory. The win was the third in four starts for the On The Attack colt. He is owned by Gwinnie Lou Stables, James Davis and Earl Stryker and trained by Brandon Piquet. After finishing third in a June 23 start, Travis Lou has reeled off three straight wins. His latest knocked three-fifths off his previous best time. He’s A Hustler was second after racing in contention throughout and Irish Big Guy rounded out the trifecta.

KF St Patrick used a strong closing kick to draw clear of the field in the third split, winning by open lengths in 1:54.4 for driver Russell Swartz and remaining perfect in five starts. The Nobleland Sam colt took control after the :27 opening panel before sprinting away in the stretch to establish a new lifetime mark. Noble Falcon and Brett Miller nosed out Lovers Concerto for second. KF St Patrick is owned by Henry Kauffman and trainer Michael Medors.

Tharps returned to the winner’s circle in the first of two divisions for sophomore pacers, piloting Dream Proof to a 1:53.2 win. Private Room was caught at the wire to finish second and J P Jackpot was third. Starting from post two, Tharps and his Mike Roth trainee left the gate fourth and pulled the pylons after the :56.3 half to race first over. The Stand Forever gelding raced second at the top of the stretch and wore down the leader to secure a narrow win. The time is a new personal best.

Touchtown and Grismore nabbed the final split by holding off a fast-closing Civil Attack in 1:54. Northern Attack finished third. Scott Cox trained the Towner’s Big Guy colt for owner Ronald Brechler. Touchtown earned his fifth win in 10 starts and pushed his career earnings over $100,000.
