After emergency surgery for an acute attack of appendicitis four weeks ago, Larry Stalbaum returned to action Monday afternoon at Monticello Raceway and picked up where he left off, driving three winners on the card.

He scored with Shezaflamentower in 1:58:3; Smooth Force N in 2:01:1 and with Teektique in 2:02:1.
Prior to being incapacitated, Stalbaum was the meet’s leading driver with 114 wins, but he since has been passed by Stephane Bouchard, whose 131 winners currently tops on the local leaderboard.

In five previous starts in Monticello Raceway’s top class for pacing fillies and mares, the $15,000 Preferred, the best Millwood Midnite N could do was finish third three times but Monday she proved to be superior when Jimmy Devaux reined her to a 1:57 victory.

Millwood Midnite N, a New Zealand-bred daughter of Village Jasper, is owned by Paul Kasofsky of Ferndale, NY and trained by Tammy Devaux.

In the co-featured pace, a $12,500 winners over for fillies and mares, Kyle DiBenedetto guided Gangsta Lady, a 5-year old-daughter of Cam’s Card Shark, to a 1:59:1 victory.

Trained by Frank Petrelli Jr. for owner Owen Eiler Jr. of Philadelphia, Pa., Gangsta Lady returned an $18.80 win payoff.

The fourth race on the card was the third preliminary leg of the Catskill Amateur Drivers Club Spring Series which went to Paul Moore, who guided Magic Surprise to a ‘surprise’ 2:03:4 victory.
