Stalbaum sidelined

An acute attack of appendicitis followed by emergency surgery has sidelined Monticello Raceway’s leading driver Larry Stalbaum.

According to Stalbaum's wife, trainer Kim Asher, Stalbaum was en route back to Monticello after competing at Saratoga Raceway on Friday night, April 29, but by the time he got to Albany he was in excruciating pain in his abdominal region. He ended up at the Albany Medical Center where he was found to have an infected appendix which was immediately removed.

After the emergency operation Stalbaum recuperated for four days at the Medical Center then returned to his home in Monticello, NY. Though he hasn’t driven a horse at Monticello Raceway in over a week his 114 wins still leads the driving colony here.

According to Asher, Stalbaum will be sidelined for at least a couple of more weeks and will be able to drive again after he receives permission from his doctors. (Monticello)
