The 2006 Three-Year-Old Filly Trotter of the Year Passionate Glide made her seasonal debut Thursday morning, finished second in one of 12 qualifiers on a star-studded morning at the Meadowlands. Passionate Glide finished second in the qualifier to Wildfire Julie, trotting her own mile in 1:56.2 as she trailed the 1:55.3 winner by four lengths. Also in that qualifier was Queen Serene, who defeated Passionate Glide last year in the second heat of the Kentucky Filly Futurity last October at The Red Mile with a 1:52 world-record effort. Queen Serene finished fourth, 7 ¼ lengths behind the winner. Lavec Dream, who emerged to divisional prominence among the older mare trotters last year when she won a Classic Series leg and finished second in the final, was third. The 2006 Pacer of the Year Total Truth won his qualifier with a 1:53.4 effort, defeating Escapable Beaux by 1 ¾ lengths. On April 19 Total Truth finished a distant 10 lengths behind Lis Mara in a world-record 1:49.1 qualifier. One week after finishing third in his seasonal qualifyihg debut, stablemate Western Ace romped home a 10 ¼-length qualifying winner in 1:52.4, pacing a final quarter in :27.4. World champion 3-year-old filly pacer Armbro Dancer (a 1:49.3 win in the Mistletoe Shalee) made her 4-year-old debut with a second-place finish in her qualifier, losing by three-quarters of a length to Pilgrims Witchie in 1:54. Last year’s Metro Pace winner, Yankee Skyscaper, also finished second by 1 ½ lengths in 1:52.2 to 3-year-old rival Whats Up Now. Another top 3-year-old prospect, Southwind Lynx, won his qualifier in 1:53.2, besting runner-up Ruff Me Up by five lengths. Mattdultery made it two straight qualifying victories with a 1:54.4 effort, while sophomore filly pacer Artcotic used a final quarter of :27.1 to also seal a 1:54.4 decision. All three 3 year olds are trained by George Teague Jr., as are Total Truth and Western Ace.
