Steinlager, the winner of the 2005 Elitlopp, has returned to the track and posted a victory after a long layoff due to a suspensory injury. Steinlager 1:52.3, a 10-year-old stallion, won at the Ferjestad track in Sweden on Monday night, timed in a mile rate of 1:59.3 over 2,140 meters. European racing fans will now be watching to see if he can compete in the Elitlopp once again.
A son of the stallion Good As Gold and the MacBreton mare Keystone Jazzy, Steinlager was taken from the track dead lame in 2006 and began standing at stud. His first foals have been born this winter/spring.
While standing at stud Steinlager was rehabilitated and trained by the father-son team of Olle and Bjorn Goop. Bjorn drove him to the victory at Ferjestad. They defeated Dumle Loss, an 8-year-old son of Deliberate Speed who was also a Swedish champin in 2005 and has just returned from injury.
