Martin Scharf's Stonebridge Kisses, a 12-time winner in 2007, kicked off the new year with a 1:52.3 victory in the $26,000 Mares Open Pace on Tuesday at Dover Downs. With Eric Goodell in the bike, Stonebridge Kisses moved early to get the lead in front of the grandstand and then bid adieu to five followers to win the distaff feature by two lengths. Nidya A, driven by Tim Tetrick, proved second best. Yada Yada Yada A and Ross Wolfenden was placed third when Fritzie Bunnie (Mike Cole) was disqualified for failure to lose ground after making a break midway through the stretch. Easter Egg Hunt came early as Roger Plante guided the 5-year-old daughter of Misfit through the passing lane to score a 1:53.3 triumph in the $20,000 mares pace sub-feature. It was her second win in her last three starts for owners Jim Sita and Karen Feeney. Bikini Bottom and Goodell took second money. Ain't Goin Back with Ben Stafford Jr. was the third-place finisher. In one of two $14,000 mare paces, Dream-A-While returned to the winner's circle for the first time in a while when Art Stafford Jr. guided the Dream Away mare he owns with Delco Stables to an off-the-pace 1:54.4 victory. Besmitten By A Vet (Vic Kirby) left fast and then came strong in the stretch, to finish second. Ultra consistent Mapua Magic N (Corey Callahan) was the show horse. The win was the first of two for Stafford. In the other section. Wolfenden, who had a driving triple, notched his middle win behind Enviro Stables' Lets Thank Heaven, with a 1:56.2 performance. Perched (Jonathan Roberts) was next with Angkor (Brewer Adams) third. Katja Schreyvogel's Touched By Ted became 2007 driving champion Tetrick's third win of the day scoring a 1:55 success in an $11,000 mares pace. Gangsta Lady (Kevin Sizer) was a head back in second with Seamstresforthepan (Eddie Davis Jr.) a close up third. In addition to Tetrick and Wolfenden's triples and Art Stafford Jr.'s two wins, Tony Morgan also had a driving double. (Dover Downs)
