Stonebridge Regal to return

North America Cup runner-up and Meadowlands Pace third-place finisher Stonebridge Regal is about two weeks away from qualifying, according to trainer Bob McIntosh. An 11-time winner in 21 starts last year at three after going unraced as a freshman, Stonebridge Regal began working his way back to the races for his 4-year-old campaign last February.

“I gave him a rest and he’ll probably qualify twice or three times,” said McIntosh. “I don’t have any set schedule for him after that.”

Included among Stonebridge Regal’s wins last year was a career-best 1:49.3 effort in the Diplomat final at Woodbine. The son of Artsplace finished his sophomore campaign with $608,993 in earnings for McIntosh and partners Robert Kauffman, Angie Stiller and Skip and Wendy Springs’ W Springtime Stable.

McIntosh also heaped high praise on his 3-year-old filly pacer In Trepid Water, a daughter of Intrepid Seelster out of the mare Water Spigot, a full sister to Water Tower p,3, 1:50.4 ($465,617). After capturing a $130,000(C) Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final at Kawartha Downs on Tuesday, May 30, In Trepid Water is now undefeated in six starts this year.

Earlier this year, In Trepid Water paced to her career-best of 1:51.4 in a leg of the Ontario Spring Series at Woodbine. McIntosh and CSX Stables bred and own the filly.
