Stormaway rolls on

March 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Stormaway was at it again at Woodbine Friday night, making mere mortals of nine rivals in the second leg of the Apaches Fame Pacing Series.

It was the fourth win in as many starts for Stormaway, a Northern Luck colt, who is the new sensation at the Toronto oval.

In the first leg of the Apaches Fame last Friday, he was a wire-to-wire two-length winner.

Tonight, he sat in fourth early, with driver Mark Megens, before establishing command around the first turn, cutting out a half-mile clip in :56.3.

In the stretch, chief rival Dodgeball tried to haul down Stormaway, but the bay duplicated his fine stretch power of last week to win by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:54.

Dodgeball was second and the promising Grin N Share It, third, beaten 3 ¾ lengths.

Dan Megens, who owns a piece of the horse with breeders Janice Van Nest and Peter Caetano of Ancaster, was the winning trainer.

Stomaway paid $2.80 to win and the exactor with 5-2 second choice Dodgeball paid a paltry $3.80.

The race, which went as the fifth on the Woodbine card, was the only division in the second leg of the series for Ontario-sired sophomore pacers.

Stormaway will look for the sweep in the final, worth $56,200 (estimated), next Friday, March 24.
