One Tough Lass won the second and decisive heat of the $343,000 Kentucky Filly Futurity Friday afternoon at The Red Mile as she won by open lengths in 1:52.4, her task made a bit easier with the scratch of the other elimination winner, Lantern Kronos.
One Tough Lass drew post one and Lantern Kronos post two in the draw for the duo of elimination winners, but trainer Jimmy Takter decided to not bring his filly back for the second heat. That left the Ross Croghan-trained, Tim Tetrick-driven One Tough Lass as the 3-5 favorite in the second heat.
Tetrick got away second behind the fast-leaving Diana Hall and Ron Pierce, but he quarter-moved his charge just past the first station in :28.2 and led through a :55.4 half and 1:24.4 three quarters. One Tough Lass put away all her rivals easily as she drew clear down the stretch. Diana Hall was able to hold onto second, with Poster Pin Up and Brian Sears third.
A daughter of Muscles Yankee out of the Pine Chip mare Timberlassie, One Tough Lass is owned by Jon Erdner of Canonsburg, Pa., and Californian William Neumeister. Her take on the day was $174,930, increasing her career earnings to $326,397. Her decisive Futurity win was a career best among her eight victories.
