Strangles positive at Sports Creek

A 3 year old brought in to the south barn at Sports Creek on Thursday, April 24, who displayed symptoms of Strangles on Friday morning, has tested positive for the disease.  All horses belonging to that trainer have been removed from the grounds. Horses housed in the south barn that were entered to race at Sports Creek or Hazel Park last Friday through Sunday were scratched prior to receiving confirmation of the positive culture to avoid any exposure to other horses. 

Horses remaining in the south barn are being isolated and monitored for any symptoms of Strangles and will not be permitted to race until they are cleared. The Office of Michigan Racing Commissioner (ORC) and track management have supervised the disinfecting of the barn areas and equipment where the horse was stabled and all possible steps to limit exposure for horses racing or stabling at Sports Creek have been taken.
