Streetcar leads to winner's circle at The Meadows

April 12, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Streetcarnamedsire stayed on track despite a double class jump, capturing the $20,000 Filly and Mare Preferred Handicap Pace on Friday at The Meadows.

The 4-year-old daughter of Real Desire had won her last two starts in conditioned events but had prepped for The Meadows' top pace in the Night Styles Series at the Meadowlands, finishing a respectable fourth in the final.

On Friday, she and Tony Hall got away fourth, pulled at the half and kept on advancing to score in 1:54.2 over a "sloppy" track. Kat N Mouse, who saw her three-race winning streak snapped, made up nearly all of a 10 1/2-length deficit to finish second by three-quarters of a length, with Au Dragon in third.

Kent Sherman trains Streetcarnamedsire for the partnership of Sherman, Patterson and Brudner.

Hall had four victories on the day, leaving him just one shy of 2,000 for his career.

Co-featured on the card was the first leg of the Canton Township, a series for 3-year-old filly pacers.

Pavla Hanover, who banked more than $54,000 at two, took the fastest of three $13,000 divisions in 1:54.1 with Mike Wilder aboard. Dan Altmeyer trains the daughter of Western Hanover and owns with Murray Brown, Richard Kelson and Jack Piatt II.

Pembroke Swifty and Rusty Again won the other splits.

The Canton Township final is set for April 25. (The Meadows)
