In a multi-horse charge to the wire, Street Dancer ($7.00, $4.00, $3.40) closed fastest of all to win the $106,700 Overbid Final for open pacing mares on Friday night at the Meadowlands.
Street Dancer sat last on the rail as Miss Galvinator led the field through brisk early fractions of :26 and 54:2, then followed KG Delight as she maneuvered three-wide around the tiring first-over challenger Nannywithafanny on the final turn. Guided by Brian Sears, Street Dancer clocked a 1:51.3 mile as she held off Easton Alliance ($13.60, $9.00) for the 1 1/4-length victory. Stonebridge Kisses ($6.80) completed the fifth race trifecta.
"I knew there was going to be some speed in the race and I knew I was going to be taking her off the gate more than likely," Sears said. "I took her off the gate and Cat (Manzi, driving Nannywithafanny) ended up getting parked and that really didn't bode well for me. I thought I'd be three-deep in the turn, which I was, but she overcame it and she put in a really good effort."
Trained by Mark Silva, Street Dancer improved her career record to 23 wins in 37 starts. The 4-year-old mare has earned $469,381 for the partnership of former Illinois Governor Jim Edgar, Terry Rathgeber, Ted Lock and James Reynolds .
