A Touch Of Flair won his North American debut Friday night at the Meadowlands, while Dan Patch champion Darlin's Delight had to settle for third in her 4-year-old debut.
A recent purchase by Adam Victor & Son Stable after racing his entire career Down Under, the Australian-bred A Touch Of Flair rallied impressively down the stretch in the $42,000 Open Trot, using a final quarter of :27.1 to propel him to a 4 3/4-length win in 1:52.3. The 7-year-old gelded son of SJ's Photo was driven by Ron Pierce for trainer Noel Daley.
A Touch Of Flair is scheduled to be on the same plane leaving Saturday night for Sweden with stablemate Mr. Muscleman. Mr. Muscleman will start in the Elitlopp May 27 at the Solvalla Racetrack while A Touch Of Flair is entered on the undercard.
Street Dancer needed every bit of her career-best 1:49.2 effort to win the $42,000 Open Pace for fillies and mares. Brian Sears worked out a third-over trip and then rallied his charge with a final quarter of :26.2 to post her fourth win of the year. Free finished second for driver David Miller while Darlin's Delight, finding room late for driver Yannick Gingras, rushed home to take third.
Owned by former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar, Terry Rathgeber, Ted Lock and Jim Reynolds, Street Dancer is trained by Mark Silva. The 4-year-old daughter of Richess Hanover has career earnings of $521,381.
