Strong Yankee euthanized

December 17, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Strong Yankee 3, 1:50.3, the winner of the 2005 Kentucky Futurity and Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colt Trot, was euthanized at the University of Guelph (Ontario) veterinary hospital yesterday after he fractured his shoulder while running in his paddock at Tara Hills Stud.

The 4-year-old stallion by Muscles Yankee was reportedly running in his paddock when he fell and broke his shoulder. Veterinarians determined there was nothing they could do to save the stallion.

Strong Yankee, a winner of $1.4 million, was trained by Trond Smedshammer as a 2 and 3 year old. He was retired from racing earlier this year, after making just five starts. Tara Hills Stud was in the process of syndicating the horse and was standing him at stud in 2008.
