Stylish Artist, a 9-2 shot, kicked off Breeders Crown championship night at the Meadowlands by taking the 2-Year-Old Filly Pace in 1:53 for trainer Mark Steacy and driver George Brennan.

Stylish Artist had won her Crown elim the previous week and started from post one. Brennan held that position through the first turn, then yielded to Chancey Lady, also an elim winner, just past the first quarter, reached in :27.2.Chancey Lady set the pace to the half in :56 and the three-quarter mark in 1:25.1.

Meanwhile, John Campbell was forced intoi a first-over trip with She's A Great Lady and Three Diamonds champion A And G'sconfusion. They pulled along Chancey Lady, but couldn't sustain the rally in the stretch.

When Chancey Lady also tired and began to bear to the outside, Brennan slipped up the inside with Stylish Artist and then held off the hard-closing Up Front Bethann  (18-1) and Dragonfest (7-1).

"Everything just worked out perfect," said Brennan after the race. "I tried to seat everybody and I knew Mark (MacDonald) would come."

Stylish Artist, a daughter of Artsplace out of the Precious Bunny mare Honey Bunny, picked up her fifth win of the season in 11 starts. She boosted her earnings to $498,634 for Steacy and his partners David K. Reid and Peter Heffering, who also bred the filly.
