Successful nuclear test

Return Home
November 09, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Nuclear Breeze made his return to Rosecroft Raceway a successful one; the 4-year-old Nuclear High stallion had not competed in a pari-mutuel event since April 22, but charged to victory in the $11,300 Preferred Pace on Tuesday night.

Owned by Tom Cooke of Maryland, Nuclear Breeze sat back off of the gate before making a very game second-over move nearing the half. Driven confidently by Jonathan Roberts, the horse came three wide at the top of the stretch to nose out betting favorite Tarver Hanover (Patrick Berry) in 1:51.3. Nuclear Breeze flew home with a :27.4 closing quarter after grinding through fractions of :27.2, :56 and 1:23.3.

Trained by Roger Hans, Nuclear Breeze now has five wins on the year from 10 starts along with a mark of 1:49.2 set at the Meadowlands back in April.

Tarver Hanover held on for second by a head. The 7-year-old Ball And Chain horse, owned by The Wiz Kids Stable LLC, came first-over to give Nuclear Breeze a solid trip. Trained by Roy Dinges, Tarver Hanover has successfully been competing in the Harrington Open and has nine seasonal wins.

After commanding the early lead, The Fraternity Pan sat along the rail for third. Driven by Brian Burton for trainer Ken Schlotzhauer, the 7-year-old Artsplace horse finished 5 1/2 lengths behind the top two. The Fraternity Pan has been dominating the Open pace at Rosecroft prior to this race. (Rosecroft)
