John Campbell sent Sugarcane Yankee three wide around the final turn and the daughter of Windsong's Legacy went on to a 2:01 victory in the $60,047 Standardbred for 2-year-old filly trotters Wednesday afternoon at the Delaware, Ohio fairgrounds.
Under urging from Campbell down the stretch, Sugarcane Yankee was able to hold off the late rally of Northmedo Esther and Jody Jamieson. Graceful Sister finished third for Brian Sears.
The win was the third in five starts this year for Sugarcane Yankee. Owned by Miller's Stable of Deleon Springs, Fla., she is rained by Randy Beeckman.
