Sunday handles jump at Balmoral

Return Home
January 10, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The total mutuel handle on Sunday programs at Balmoral the past two weekends made a huge jump upward, climbing by $500,000. The first four Sunday Balmoral cards in December averaged $1.24 million in handle, while the last two were all-time Balmoral Sunday highs of $1,724,885 and $1,864,363.

“The big increase is because of California,” said Jim Hannon, Balmoral's director of simulcasting. “There’s no Quarter Horse racing going on there at this time and instead of a limited number of races (by California law) they could bet on us nightly, both the Cal-Expo and Los Alamitos tracks are now wagering on the entire Balmoral Sunday program."
