Super Bowl to Euro Hanover

Return Home
January 25, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Euro Hanover opened up a big lead in the $70,000 Super Bowl final, but needed nearly all of it to capture the race Wednesday night at the Meadowlands in a lifetime best of 1:54.3. The time also set a stakes record, eclipsing Rumsfel's 1:56 mark, turned in back in 2005.

Euro Hanover, sent off as the 9-5 favorite, had a seven-length lead at the top of the stretch and won by 1 1/4 lengths over Anotherbogey B, driven by Jonathan Roberts. Next Superstar was third.

A 4-year-old gelding, Euro Hanover picked up his second straight victory and now has two wins and a second in three starts this year. He has a career total of 11 wins, 12 seconds and three thirds from 34 starts.

Cat Manzi, who won the 2006 Super Bowl Final with Bancroft Hall, was back in the winner’s circle with Euro Hanover.

"He’s a bit of a handful,” Manzi acknowledged. “We’ve been babying him along, trying to work out his best race. Bruce [trainer Bruce Saunders] has done a great job with him. He went through a bad spell a couple of weeks ago. He straightened it out. Tonight the horse just dictated how I drove him. He was really on his game.”

Euro Hanover has now banked $82,506 for owners Todd Schadel and Charles Vincent. (Meadowlands press release)
