Supplement to Yonkers Trot

Glidemaster will get his chance to become trotting’s seventh Triple Crown champion as his connections have decided to supplement the 3-year-old colt to the Yonkers Trot. If eliminations are needed they will be raced Saturday night, Nov. 18, at Yonkers Raceway, with the $750,000 (est.) final scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 25.

Glidemaster has already won the Hambletonian and Kentucky Futurity, and a win in the Yonkers Trot would not only clinch the Triple Crown but also give him the all-time single-season record for earnings by a trotter. The son of Yankee Glide is trained by Blair Burgess for owners Karin Olsson-Burgess, Bob Burgess, Marsha Cohen and breeder Brittany Farms, who decided to pay the $60,000 supplemental fee to the Yonkers Trot.

“Blair felt that he wanted to break the season-earning record and have a shot at the Triple Crown, and those were his two main priorities,” Brittany Farms’ racing manager Myron Bell told harnessracing.com Tuesday afternoon, the day before the Yonkers Trot draw will be held. “The horse has tremendous ability and has always raced from behind, but maybe at Yonkers it will be different.”

Glidemaster’s $1,554,236 in seasonal earnings currently rank him fourth on the all-time trotting list, behind only Windsong’s Legacy ($1,713,806, 2004), Malabar Man ($1,679,862, 1997) and Prakas ($1,610,608, 1985). That leaves him just $159,570 from taking the top spot.

Blair Burgess has once again named George Brennan to drive, subbing for the injured John Campbell, who suffered a broken leg in a Breeders Crown elimination race Oct. 21 at Woodbine. Brennan directed Glidemaster for the first time in the Crown final, finishing second to Majestic Son.

The Yonkers Trot will likely be Glidemaster’s final racetrack appearance. It was recently announced Glidemaster would stand the 2007 breeding season at Walnridge Farm in Pennsylvania.
