Surprise mark in London

May 30, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The 2006 Molson Pace week at Western Fair Raceway got off to a rousing start with an unexpected track performance on Monday, May 29 program. In the 6th race, a conditioned trot for a purse of $ 11,200 Windsongbraveheart stopped the clock in 1:57.2, besting the London track's category record for older horses by one-fifth of a second, which had been set two weeks ago by Nobananas.

Trevor Henry had the 4-year-old Mr Lavec-Armbro Infinte gelding out front all the way. Henry had also been in the bike for the previous track standard by Nobananas and when the pair passed the three-quarters in 1:27.3, the track record was in sight as the nearest finishers Gatepost, Salute A, Terra Cotta Caddy and the rest of the field were gapped out turning for home. Henry made a fist pump just past the wire as he saw the time flash up for the fastest trotting mile in over 45 years of racing history at Western Fair.

Ray Bunn trains Windsongbraveheart for owner Darryl Newbigging of Komoka, ON. As recently as May 10 the trotter romped in a $ 7,500 claimer before his two most recent wins in conditioned company including Monday's track record performance.

This Friday night, Western Fair's signature annual Free For All event, The Molson Pace, will be contested for a $ 250,000 purse. A top flight undercard is also planned by race secretary Ian Fleming.
