The Swedish Breeders Crown semifinals for the fillies were raced at the Halmstad track in southern Sweden Monday night. The first semi went to Joy As (Malabar Man-Nevele Duchess), who has mixed many ups with a few downs during the season.

Joy As had a bad day in the Swedish Oaks, but was back again in best shape and won her Breeders Crown heat wire to wire. She was timed in a mile rate of 2:01.3 over 2,140 meters. She is trained by Olle Gopp and was driven by Bjorn Goop. Foreign Beauty (Foreign Office) was second and Goldie Crown (Lindy's Crown) third, with the top three advancing to the final.

Lotuschic (Pine Chip-Gosh, by Nuclear Kosmos) has met Joy As in important stakes before, and they will square off again in the final after Lotuschic won her elim.

She came from behind (post 10) and won her elim easily in a mile rate of 2:01.3 over 2,140 meters for trainer-driver Stig H. Johansson. Also advancing were Patricia du Ling (Super Arnie) and Orchidee d'Aunou (Coktail Jet). The Oaks winner Electra Skift (Keepitinthefamily) was beaten (second) when she was parked for the entire distance for Stig H. Johansson.

In a third elim the pacesetter, Ecupos Bitte (Juliano Star-Umbrella Tilly, by Quick Pay), held command all the way home. She was timed in a mile rate of 2:01.1 over 2,140 meters and was driven by Thomas Uhrberg.

The Stefan Melander trained Superbabe (Super Arnie) took the last ticket in that semi.

The last semi of four was captured by the favorite, Alltid VG

(Spotlite Lobell-Glenna Brick, by Super Arnie). She started from post 12 but was in the lead after 6 /16ths of a mile. The speed was reduced after the fast opening panels and as they turned for home trainer-driver Åke Svanstedt could be quite confident. She won ahead of Mad Marke (Vip Tilly) and Ultra Sund (Viking Kronos) and was timed in a rate of 2:02.

The fillies will race the Breeders Crown at the Eskilstuna track on Nov 19.--By Lars Palm
