Yellow Diamond was sent off the heavy favorite in the first of two $151,500 divisions of the Glen Garnsey Memorial Pace for 3-year-old fillies Friday afternoon at The Red Mile and she rewarded her backers with a winning 1:52.1 effort for driver Jim Morrill Jr. over a "sloppy" track. Showherthemoney completed the trainer Tracy Brainard/owner Bulletproof Enterprises sweep in the Garnsey with a 1:52.2 score in the second split.
In the first Garnsey division, Morrill sent Yellow Diamond away fifth at the start but moved his charge to the lead heading down the backstretch shortly after the opening quarter of :27.1 was reached by the leading West Of LA. Yellow Diamond then gamely held off her rivals in the stretch, with West Of LA holding on for second for driver Ron Pierce, with Special Sweetheart and David Miller third.
Unraced last year at two, the win was Yellow Diamond's 10th in 17 starts this year, increasing her earnings to more than $710,000.
Showherthmoney continued her win tear in the second split as she notched her sixth straight victory, a skein that includes the Shady Daisy, the Jugette, and the Nadia Lobell (a world-record 1:49 effort) and a Bluegrass division at The Red Mile. Driven by Morrill, Showherthemoney moved first-over around the final turn but she found a determined Indulge Me on top with driver Jody Jamieson. Despite a valiant effort by Indulge Me, she could not fight off Showherthemoney. Kiss Me Kate finished third for John Campbell.
The win was the 10th of the year for Showherthemoney, a daughter of Cam's Card Shark out of he Artsplace mare Stienam's Place, she also a prior winner of the Jugette. Showherthemoney's seasonal earnings are now well past the $600,000 mark.
