T-G nominations up at Tioga

The Tompkins-Geers has seen its nominations for 2 year olds rise 37 percent from 2006 to 2007. A total of 780 nominations were received, up from 571 in 2006. Every division increased except the 2-year-old trotting fillies, which was down only three entrants. The largest increase saw the 2-year-old filly pacers go from 125 in 2006 to 211 in 2007. The nominations for 3 year olds totaled 231 horses, up from 212 in 2006.

“We’re thrilled about the number of nominations increasing this year. We hope it’s from people hearing about how fun and enjoyable it is to race at Tioga,” said Jeff Gural. Once again on Sunday we will have a barbeque after the races under the Tioga tent open to all Tompkin-Geers participants and Monday we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Grand Circuit Golf Tournament, free to all of the owners, trainers and drivers participating at Tioga.

The Tompkins-Geers is an open event for 2 and 3 year olds that has been raced at Scioto Downs for the past several years before making the leap to Tioga Downs in 2006. Last year the 3 year olds raced at Scioto with the 2 year olds beginning at Tioga. This year will be the first year that both age groups will race at Tioga. The events, separated by sex and gait, will make up Tioga Downs Grand Circuit week.
