The Jimmy Takter-trained Zooming and Leader Of The Gang swept the two $44,100 divisions of the E.H. Harriman Cup of the Historic Series for 2-year-old colt trotters raced Thursday night at the Meadowlands. With Takter in the sulky, The 7-1 Zooming posted a 1:58.1 victory, while Ron Pierce directed the odds-on 2-5 favorite Leader Of The Gang to the 1:56.2 score.

Zooming won for the first time in his second pari-mutuel start, which followed a pair of second-place finishes in baby races. On Thursday night, the Ray Schnittker-trained entry of Musclelaneous and High Pan Tolerance finished second and third, respectively.

A $15,000 yearling purchase, Zooming is a son of Classic Photo out of the Lindy Lane mare Merit Lane, she a half sister to the 1999 Hambletonian winner Self Possessed. Takter's wife, Christina, shares ownership with John Fielding.

Pierce had Leader Of The Gang on top at every call as the son of Muscles Yankee easily bested Magnum Kosmos and Consus Blue Chip. A winner in New Jersey Sire Stakes action June 24 at the Meadowlands, Leader Of The Gang is now two-for-two in his early career.

Leader Of The Gang, who is out of the Angus Hall mare Fraulien Bluestone, she a half sister to the $390,000-winning Southwind Flanders, was a $170,000 yearling purchase by Christina Takter, Brixton Medical Ab, RAW Equine and Joyce McClelland.
