Jimmy Takter trainees Leader Of The Gang and Pastor Stephen kept their perfect records intact as both 2-year-old colt trotters won their respective $20,000 eliminations for the Peter Haughton Memorial Friday night at the Meadowlands. Leader Of The Gang is now four for four after his career-best 1:55.3 effort, while Pastor Stephen scored his third straight win with a career-best 1:56.1 clocking.

In the first Haughton elim, Leader Of The Gang cleared to the lead at  the :57.2 half, with driver Ron Pierce then yielding the front to the Tim Tetrick-driven The Lindy Reserve. Turning for home Pierce popped the pocket with his charge and the son of Muscles Yankee trotted home a 2 1/2-length winner over a late-closing Neal and driver John Campbell, who edged past The Lindy Reserve in the final strides. Whit and Magnum Kosmos finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to advance to the Aug. 7 Haughton final.

Leader Of The Gang was a $170,000 yearling purchase by Christina Takter, Brixton Medical Ab, Joyce McClelland and RAW Equine from breeder Herb Liverman. Leader Of The Gang was coming off a win in the $200,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes final.

Yannick Gingras rallied Pastor Stephen from sixth at the three-quarters to a three-quarter-length win over the Pierce-driven Broad Bahn. Orlando finished third, with Charlie De Vie fourth and Evil Urges fifth. The win margin for Pastor Stephen was actually a lot of daylight after having scored by just a neck in his previous two victories, including a Reynolds division and Pennsylvania Sire Stakes leg.

A son of Cantab Hall, Pastor Stephen is out of the Enjoy Lavec mare Gala Dream,, she a half sister to the $1.3 million-winning Chocolatier, winner of the 2005 Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Colt Trot and 2006 World Trotting Derby, among others, and runner-up in the '06 Hambletonian, and the 2003 Yonkers Trot winner Sugar Trader, a winner of more than $730,000.

Bred by Brittany Farms, Pastor Stephen is owned by Brittany in partnership with Christina Takter and John Fielding.
