Talk speaks at Pompano

Talk About Me earned bragging rights on Wednesday night at Pompano Park with a handy 1:57.1 win in the $10,000 Open Handicap Trot. The Florida-bred 4-year-old son of Keystone Smothers was given a picture-perfect drive by Anthony Napolitano and scored by a length and a half over the late charging Table Wine, handled by Dave Ingraham.

Talk About Me left a bit from mid-pack and settled in fourth early as Trotting Intruder (Donald Dupont) engaged Battleshoe Victor in a first quarter war that had the favorite parked out in :27.4. After finally securing the lead, Lareau took Battleshoe through the half-mile beam in :57.3.

On the backstretch, Terminator Hall, driven by Brett Miller, was the first to go after the leader with Talk About Me following the cover. When the “Terminator” was unable to sustain his bid, “Nap” sent Talk About Me three wide turning for home and easily collared Battleshoe Victor and sprinted clear in the final sixteenth.

Trained by Bob Schell for A & M Floral Inc. of Pierson, Fls., the consistent Talk About Me now has a 7-8-7 scorecard in 27 starts and 2006 earnings of $56,090. (Pompano Park)
