Tasmanian Daniel (Larry Stalbaum), ultra-consistent in the latter part of the season, took final 2008 Yonkers Raceway feature honors by winning Saturday night's $40,000 Open Pace.

"Daniel," leaving from post position 5 in the open-draw octet, made an immediate lead before surrendering to the pole-sitter--and 11-10 favorite--Psilvuheartbreaker (Jim Meittinis). That one led through fairly comfortable early fractions of :27.4 and :57.1.

Brokaw (Jordan Stratton), a  30-1 proposition, prompted the protocol to a 1:25.4 (:28.3) three-quarters, but Psilvuheartbreaker owned a length-and-a-half lead entering the lane.

The favorite needed only to hold off his stalker to grab the gusto, but "Daniel" angled out for the drive and snapped Psilvuheartbreaker on the money. Tasmanain Daniel prevailed by a head in 1:54, with JP Jackpot (Stephane Bouchard), Brokaw and Toucan Sam (Pat Berry, three winenrs Saturday) completing the cashers.

Tasmanian Daniel, a 5-year-old Keystone Raider gelding owned (and trained) by Kimberly Asher, paid $7.20 (second choice) for his sixth win in 18 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $24.40, with the triple returning $68.50. "Daniel" has four victories and four thirds in eight tries since hitting town early last month. (Yonkers)
