TCS format discussed

March 15, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

On Sunday, March 11, a meeting of The Classic Series (TCS) Board of Directors was held at the Westin Diplomat Hotel in Hollywood, Fla., called by TCS president Dr. Glen Brown to present a forum for open discussion of the Series. Joining TCS directors at the meeting were several industry leaders including Frank Antonacci, Joe Costa, Jeff Gural, Ken Jackson, Jim Simpson and Bruce Murray.

The discussion centered on the past successes and the future of TCS. It offered an open forum for alternative ideas for the use of the funding the Series receives from breeders, owners, the host tracks and the sponsor sale companies. Although no proposals for change were presented at the meeting, Dr. Brown has appointed a Review Committee, to be chaired by Dr. Paul F. “Pete” Spears, to review the past success of TCS in meeting its goals and to discuss the position of TCS within an expanded slot-enhanced racing schedule for older horses. It will also determine the most effective format for TCS in the future.

This committee will report to the full board of directors at TCS annual meeting this summer. Any possible changes to TCS will not be made until this study is reviewed and approved by TCS directors.

The 2007 edition of TCS is just a month away, kicking off with leg number one on Monday, April 9 at Dover Downs. (TCS)
